Chennai has thousands of clinics, and most of their websites were built for the doctor, not the patient. This guide is written from the patient's side of the screen: someone with a problem, on a phone, comparing three clinics in the next two minutes.
The four questions, above the fold
Before scrolling, a patient wants:
- What do you treat? Plain words. "Physiotherapy for back and knee pain", not "holistic musculoskeletal wellness solutions".
- Which doctor? Name, qualification, years of practice, a real photo.
- When are you open? Today's hours, on the page, not in a PDF.
- How do I reach you? A phone number that dials when tapped and a WhatsApp button. Most Chennai patients would rather message than fill a form.
If those four are on the first screen, the site is already better than most.
What the rest of the site needs
- Doctor profiles: qualifications, registration, specialities, languages spoken (Tamil and English at least), and consultation timings per doctor.
- Services, one page each for the ones people search for. "Dental implants in Anna Nagar" is a search; "our services" is not.
- Location and directions: an embedded map, the nearest landmark, parking, and which bus or metro stop. Chennai patients navigate by landmark.
- Appointment request: a short form with name, phone, preferred doctor and day. It should send to a phone or email that is watched during clinic hours, and confirm on screen that it was received. Full online booking with slots is a bigger build and only worth it when demand justifies it.
- Real photos: reception, consulting rooms, equipment, the team. Stock photos of smiling models in white coats reduce trust rather than build it.
- Fees, if you can: a consultation fee stated plainly removes a reason to call a competitor.
Trust signals that actually work
- Doctor registration numbers where applicable.
- Genuine Google reviews, which live on your Google Business Profile rather than on the site. The profile is where most patients find a clinic in the first place; keep its hours and phone number current.
- Insurance and payment options, listed.
- Plain language about what a first visit involves.
What to leave out
- Medical claims you cannot support. "Guaranteed cure", "100% success" and similar phrases invite trouble and lose the trust of the patients you want.
- A phone number hidden behind a form. Patients in pain do not fill forms.
- Autoplaying video, sliders, animations. They slow the page on a cheap phone, and a slow page loses the patient before it loads. Google's own Core Web Vitals thresholds are a good target: main content visible within 2.5 seconds.
- A patient portal or app on day one. Build the site that gets patients through the door; add portals when volume asks for them.
Privacy
An appointment form collects personal information. Say on the page what it is used for, send it over an encrypted connection, and do not store it anywhere it does not need to be. Keep the privacy note short and honest.
What a clinic site costs and how long it takes
A clinic site with doctor profiles, service pages, a map and an appointment request form is a small business website in scope: typically two to four weeks once the doctor profiles and photos exist. Online booking with live slots or a patient login adds real work and is quoted separately. See the small business website page for how such a build runs, and send the details for a fixed written quote within 24 hours.
Questions people ask
Do we need online booking with time slots?
Usually not at first. An appointment request form that reaches the reception phone handles most clinics well. Live slot booking is worth it when the reception is overwhelmed or patients book at night.
Can the site be in Tamil as well as English?
Yes, and for a neighbourhood clinic it helps. A language switch lets patients read doctor profiles and timings in Tamil.
Should each doctor have their own page?
Yes. Patients search for doctors by name and by speciality, and a page per doctor with qualifications, timings and a photo answers both.
What about WhatsApp?
Add a WhatsApp button that opens a chat with the reception number and a pre-filled message. It is the channel most Chennai patients prefer.
