Marketplace shipped: Offer Meet

Marketplace apps,
web and mobile.

A marketplace is two products at once: one for the people who buy and one for the people who sell, plus the admin that keeps both honest. UgeWorks built exactly that for Offer Meet, a local offers marketplace across Kerala, and builds the same shape for founders and businesses in Chennai.

Case study

Offer Meet: a marketplace that is live

Offer Meet helps shoppers in Kerala find today’s offers from shops near them, and helps small shops reach nearby customers without paying for ads. Shops publish flyers, catalogues and coupons; shoppers browse by district, town, category or map, and call, WhatsApp or get directions in one tap.

It is three products on one AWS backend: a React Native app for iOS and Android, a React web app so a shared link works without installing anything, and a merchant admin where shops manage their own listings. Tap a product on a shop’s flyer and you see that product; choose a town and you see only that town’s shops, pinned on a real map.

What you can build

Marketplace shapes that work in Chennai

Local deals and offers

Shops across T. Nagar, Purasawalkam or Velachery post daily offers; shoppers see what is on near them. The Offer Meet model, applied to Chennai.

Service marketplaces

Customers book electricians, tutors, cleaners, photographers or caterers; providers manage their own availability and prices; you take a commission or a listing fee.

Business directories

A searchable, map-based directory for a trade, a community, an association or an industrial estate, with verified listings and enquiry buttons.

Multi-vendor stores

Several sellers, one storefront, one checkout, with orders routed to the right vendor and payouts calculated per seller.

Rentals and bookings

Equipment, vehicles, venues or spaces listed by owners and booked by customers, with availability calendars and deposits.

B2B sourcing

Buyers post requirements; suppliers respond with quotes. Useful for manufacturing clusters around Ambattur, Guindy and Sriperumbudur.

The parts every marketplace needs

What actually gets built

The buyer side Search, categories, location and map, listing pages, saved items, contact or checkout. On the web and in the app.
The seller side Sign-up and verification, a dashboard to add and edit listings, photos, offers and prices, and the numbers they care about.
Your admin Approve sellers, moderate listings, manage categories and places, handle reports, see what is happening across the platform.
Payments, if you take them Razorpay or another gateway, verified on the server. Commission or split payouts need a gateway’s marketplace or route product and extra KYC; that is scoped honestly up front.
Location Districts, towns and neighbourhoods, device location with a manual fallback, and map pins. The part local marketplaces most often get wrong.
Notifications Push notifications in the app, and WhatsApp or SMS where they are more reliable, for new offers, bookings and messages.

Honest advice

The hard part is not the code

Solve the empty marketplace first A marketplace with no sellers has no buyers and the reverse. Plan how the first 50 sellers get onboarded, often by hand, before the launch date. Offer Meet shows an honest “no offers here yet” for a town with no live shops rather than faking content.
Start with one city or one category Dense in one place beats thin everywhere. Launch in a few Chennai neighbourhoods or one category, then widen.
Ship the web app first if budget is tight A web app reaches everyone through a WhatsApp link with no install. Add the store apps once repeat users exist. Built on the same backend, nothing is thrown away.

Across Chennai

Founders and businesses across the city

Questions

Frequently asked

How much does it cost to build a marketplace app?

A marketplace is at least three products, so it costs more than a single app. The biggest levers are whether payments flow through the platform, how many seller features you need at launch, and whether you start with the web app alone. You get a fixed written price for a phased scope within 24 hours of the call.

Can you build an app like Offer Meet for Chennai?

Yes. That is the most direct way to use this page. The same architecture, a web app, a React Native app and a merchant admin on one AWS backend, works for any city, with your own brand, categories and business model.

Should I launch on the web or in the app stores first?

Usually the web first. It costs less, needs no store review, and spreads through WhatsApp links. Because the app shares the backend, adding iOS and Android later does not mean rebuilding.

How do marketplaces take a commission in India?

Through a payment gateway’s split or route product, which collects the customer’s payment and settles each seller’s share to their account. It needs extra KYC for you and your sellers, so it is planned before build rather than added at the end.

Who owns the app and the data?

You do. The code is in your GitHub, the backend in your AWS account, and the apps in your own Apple and Google developer accounts.
