Remote worldwide, written-first

Hire a developer in India
from anywhere in the world.

Small businesses, founders and NRIs abroad hire UgeWorks for websites, online stores, React Native apps and AWS backends. This page is honest about what makes a remote relationship with an Indian developer work and what makes it fail, because both have been seen.

Who this is for

Three kinds of client abroad

A small business that needs a site or store

A restaurant in Leicester, a clinic in Dubai, a landscaper in Melbourne, a consultant in Toronto. A fast custom site or an online store, at a cost that would not be possible with a local agency, without the quality trade-off you have been warned about.

A founder building a first product

An MVP in React Native and AWS, built by one engineer who has shipped to the App Store, with your own developer accounts so the app is yours from the first submission.

An NRI with a business back home

You are in Singapore or the Gulf; the family business is in Tamil Nadu or elsewhere in India. A developer who can talk to your parents in Tamil on a weekday afternoon and to you in English that evening.

Time zones, honestly

When you will actually hear from me

India is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving. Working hours are 9am to 7pm IST, Monday to Saturday. That overlaps with every major region for at least part of the day.

United Kingdom and Europe Your morning is my afternoon. Calls fit comfortably between 9am and 1pm UK time. Anything you send in your afternoon is answered first thing your next morning.
UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar Only 1.5 to 2.5 hours behind IST. Almost the full working day overlaps, so this is effectively same-time-zone work.
Singapore and Malaysia 2.5 hours ahead of IST. Your late morning onwards is my working day. Full overlap for calls.
Australia and New Zealand Your afternoon is my morning. A call at 2pm to 5pm Sydney time lands in my 9am to noon. Messages sent overnight are handled during your evening.
United States and Canada The hardest overlap. My 9am to 11am is the previous evening on the East Coast; my evening is your morning. Calls are scheduled weekly in a slot that works for you, and everything else runs asynchronously, in writing, so the time gap becomes a feature: work done while you sleep, reviewed when you wake.

What makes it work

The four things that decide whether an offshore project succeeds

Not the rate. These.

A specific written scope

Vague briefs fail across a time zone in a way they might survive across a desk. Every project starts with a written scope you approve, and every change to it is written down too.

Written communication as the default

Decisions in email or a shared channel, not only on calls. You can read them at your time, and so can whoever you hire after me.

Your accounts, in your country

Domain at your registrar, hosting in your AWS account, the app in your Apple and Google developer accounts registered where you live, code in your GitHub. Nothing to "transfer" later.

Proof, not promises

A preview link from week one, a demo of working software every week, and milestone invoices you pay only against things you can see running.

Practicalities

Contracts, payment and the boring parts

Contract and NDA A written agreement covering scope, IP ownership (yours, in full, on payment), confidentiality and payment terms. Your template or a standard one.
Payment Invoice and payment method are agreed in writing before work starts; international bank transfer is the usual route. Milestone payments for fixed-price work, monthly for retainers.
Data and privacy If your users are in the UK, EU or Australia, the site or app is built to your local requirements: cookie consent where required, a privacy policy you control, data hosted in the AWS region you choose.
After launch Support continues on the same written channel. Most clients keep a small monthly retainer for changes; others pay per task. Both are fine.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is hiring a developer in India cheaper?

Usually, yes, because the cost of living in Chennai is lower than in London, Sydney or San Francisco. What you should not accept alongside the lower price is lower ownership, vaguer scope or worse communication. This page sets out how each of those is handled.

How do we communicate?

Email, WhatsApp, Slack or whichever channel you already use, in writing by default, plus a scheduled weekly call in your working hours. English throughout; Tamil if that is useful for family or staff in India.

Who owns the code and the accounts?

You do. The code is in your GitHub, hosting in your AWS account, the app in your developer accounts. Intellectual property transfers to you in full on payment, and the contract says so.

Can you publish the app in my country's App Store and Google Play?

Yes. The developer accounts are opened in your name and country, and submissions, review responses and resubmissions are handled from here. The app is listed in whichever storefronts you choose.

What about GDPR or other local rules?

The build follows the requirements you tell me apply: consent banners, data location, retention, privacy policy content. Legal advice on what applies is yours to obtain; implementing it is mine.

Can we start small to see how it goes?

Yes, and it is the sensible way. A single page, a small feature or a two-week retainer shows you the routine before you commit to a bigger scope.
